Formula Ford Winter Series Round 3
Pukekohe's Billy Frazer showed he is a real contender for this year's New Zealand Formula Ford Championship with 2 wins and a second place in an impressive display at this weekend's Winter Series at Manfield Raceway, Feilding. The 16 year old, Kings College student, in only his second meeting since moving up from Formula First, lead from start to finish in the first 2 races and, after missing the start in the 3rd race, fought back to take a 2nd place securing the round win for the weekend.
This season Billy is driving a new Spectrum Formula Ford powered by an Edgell performance 1600cc engine and has the support of the Melbourne based Spectrum Factory team along with the new Hampton Downs based Career Racing Team.
The New Zealand Formula Ford Championship has been revamped this year by New Zealand Motorsport and its opening meeting will be held at Pukekohe's ITM V8 Supercar meeting in September. The Championship will be run over 6 meetings with two being held here in Pukekohe. “It's going to be awesome running at a Supercar meeting and I always enjoy racing at Pukekohe Park” said Billy. “I've got off to a good start in this class, but I know I have to keep working on a few things to continue to improve. I have a great team around me and am learning so much each time I get out on the track “.
Billy's next outing will be the 24th of August at Pukekohe.
